The Story of Chester
My mom lives nearby and I try to bring her meals regularly. She was an amazing cook and hostess when I was growing up, so it feels very full circle to be cooking for her now.
It’s even more important to bring her food and necessities during the coronavirus outbreak as she shelters in place, and while we do worry about her, there’s one thing that always brings a smile.
About a month ago, I prepared a bag of food for my mom and I asked my husband to bring it over. I didn’t even look at the bag I picked, just grabbed the first one from our stash.
My husband brought the food over to my mom and this is the text he sent to our daughters:
“This is the bag your mom used to pack grandma food. Grandma took one look and said, ‘I don’t think I’ll send that bag back!!’”
It was a Hollister bag with a very, um, nice looking young man on it. So, we all decided that this would, in fact, become the official food delivery bag from our home to hers.
The following week my mom came over to have brunch. The Hollister bag happened to be at our house so I was packing up some food when someone suggested that we name our food delivery helper.
A few names got tossed out but then my husband jokingly called out Chester (for obvious reasons). We all laughed and agreed that was the perfect name. So grandma and Chester headed home.
These days Chester has been extra busy. But he doesn’t mind. He’s there when we need him, carrying food, toilet paper and whatever else my mom needs. He never judges us and always listens. He’s hunky, smart and kind. He’s the perfect guy to be stuck at home with and he always brings a smile. And don’t we all need a smile right now? Thank you, Chester.
